Excuses Don’t Sell – The Sooner You Learn the Language of Sales, the Better Your Sales Life Will Be
By Rajeev Bahl
The Language You Choose Reflects the Mindset You Carry
A high-performing MR speaks the language of sales: - “How can I position my brand better?” - “What insight can I gain from this doctor?” - “How do I create value that differentiates me?” - “What follow-up mechanism should I improve?” In contrast, an average or struggling MR defaults to: - “Doctors are not interested.” - “The brand is weak.” - “The market is down.” - “My patch is tough.” The former speaks from ownership, the latter from avoidance.
Excuse-Making Is a Habit. So Is Selling. Choose Yours.
Excuses feel good in the moment. They take the pressure off, shift the blame, and create temporary comfort. But here's the hard truth: Excuses don’t move the needle. They don’t win prescriptions. They don’t create rapport with doctors. And they certainly don’t lead to growth. Sales is about: - Asking the right questions - Listening actively - Adapting your pitch - Understanding buying behavior - Creating trust And none of this starts with, “Doctor wasn’t available.”
Sales Begins Where Excuses End
The sooner a salesperson learns the real language of sales—the language of value, empathy, insight, consistency, and action—the sooner they begin to enjoy the real rewards of selling. Remember: “Excuses are the nails used to build a house of failure.”
Make the Shift Today: From Excuses to Execution
If you’re serious about making a mark in your sales career: - Replace blame with strategy - Replace frustration with follow-up - Replace helplessness with learning - Replace noise with numbers Because in the end, your career won’t be built on what you explain away, but on what you execute well.
Final Word
Excuses are fluently spoken by many. The language of sales is mastered only by those who win consistently. The choice is yours.
